Denise was unemployed for 3 years after the manufacturing company where she worked eliminated its Santa Fe Springs facility.
Denise started going to the SELACO WIB in Cerritos to use its job search services. Her career counselor encouraged Denise to attend every workshop available. "I was hesitant and fearful at first, but in the end I was grateful for the push. I am a more marketable person for it,” said Denise.
Denise regained confidence by attending the Steps to Economic and Personal Success (STEPS) seminar and a Dress for Success workshop. “The Toastmasters Club at SELACO WIB is another program that fostered confidence and enhanced my communication skills. Toastmasters was full of encouraging and gracious members, and amazing mentors,” she shared.
With WIA funds, Denise also attended New Horizons Learning Center for a Microsoft Office course. Completing this training made her a more competitive job seeker.
