Maria had extensive experience in the accounting field, but was laid off in January, 2010, from a long-term assignment through Robert Half. Although she had known from the start that it was a temporary-to-hire position, she'd held the position for 18 months. Then, the company decided to outsource the entire department, and Maria's job ended. She knew it was time to prepare her resume and begin a job search.
Maria visited the Southeast Los Angeles County (SELACO) WIB and was enrolled for services. She was determined to learn as much as she could, and she attended every workshop offered there, including a 3-day motivational workshop called Steps to Economic and Personal Success (STEPS). "I recommend STEPS to everyone, as it helped me to remain confident and to stay focused on my goals. Updating my computer skills also helped," said Maria.
Outcomes & Benefits
The support and networking opportunities Maria received helped her land an interview for an accounting position with Gordon Laboratories, which then led to a job offer. "It has been 7 months since I started my new job, but I still cannot forget the help and support that I received from SELACO WIB’s staff, including my Case Manager Cindy Lopez," said Maria.
