James came to SELACO WIB as a college graduate who had been out of work for over a year. He had minimal work experience, and did not have a professional resume or the know-how to create one. Additionally, his college major had not prepared him with specific skills that would qualify him for the types of jobs he desired.
At the Southeast Los Angeles County WIB (SELACO WIB), James met with his case manager and took classes in resume writing and other job search skills. The WIB offered financial assistance for James to take a real estate class and earn a sales license.
With a newly polished resume, James applied with Mechanics Bank and was accepted into its management training program.
Outcomes & Benefits
After completing the management training program with Mechanics Bank in Richmond, CA, James was hired full time as a Financial Services Manager. "Having my real estate license definitely helped my résumé when applying for the position, and my physical résumé itself was a product of my time at SELACO WIB," said James. "While I originally went to SELACO WIB for help in finding a job, I have instead found a career. I am very appreciative of everything that was given to me at SELACO, and am really not sure if I would be where I am today without it.” James is planning a long-term career in banking, and loves his new job.
