Linda was attending college, but when her mother lost her job and was involved in an auto collision, the financial strain in her household increased. Linda knew she could not afford to finish a 4-year degree, and she needed to explore other training options in order to begin working more quickly.
Through the Southeast Los Angeles County WIB (SELACO WIB) Linda was an eligible youth who, as part of the Community Youth Corps, was one of the few selected to receive funds from the CalGRIP grant. This funding targets at-risk youth who reside in areas with high gang activity to provide job training and other resources. The grant money enabled Linda to begin training as a Pharmacy Technician.
Outcomes & Benefits
Linda completed her Pharmacy Technician course and obtained her license. Community Youth Corps assisted her by providing gas cards and other services that will take off some of the financial strain while she searches for a job.
